"Maui-one man against the gods" was a breath taking performance. All the costumes were awesome. i enjoyed the language and movement that was used in the show. All the cast were amazing!
A really great show! The way the show was set was an interesting and imaginative concept, and I loved the interation the show had with the audience. A+++++++!
The storyline and the whole maori theme was awesome i loved everything about it. i am a whangarei girls high school student and i take drama i can't wait to do a production like this at school. it is so cool to see another well performed maori themed production
Me and my mum went to see the show in Wellington on Thursday night.
It was the most remarkable experience we have ever had in our life.
The use of lighting and fabric, dancers etc was absolutely AMAZING, we were drawn in right from the beginning to end....
My fav character in particular was Hine nui te Po...voices and everything was amazing.
I would also like to say to my cousin Jason Te Patu (who played maui) nga mihi aroha kia koe e te whanaunga! Tau Ke alright!!!!!!
This show I would recommend to anyone all around the world, even if you don't understand Te Reo Maaori, you would still love it, mind you with Tama Nui Te Ra explanning it all bit by bit made it alot better for non Maaori speakers.
To the whole cast Nga Mihi kia koutou, kia kaha, Kia maia, Kia manawanui.

Awesome show. Ka mau te wehi!! This was the best portrayal of the story of Maui that I have ever seen. Well done to all of those involved.
Outstanding vocalists and artists that portray the story line of Maui and his experiences that will astound all ethnic groups. Be ready to cry, laugh and sit in silence on the edge of your seat with anticipation.
PURE MAGIC - PREPARE TO BE BLOWN AWAY
We took 60 kids and 10 adults to the Hamilton matinee of Maui yesterday. It was an amazing experience for us all. We all really enjoyed the show. There wasn't one part of it that we didn't like. In fact it was hard to pick a favourite scene! I kept thinking- 'what is coming next?'we teach kids drama and dance this was such great motivation for them to perform. Thank you so much for this matinee performance- a once in a lifetime experience for our kids! Good luck with your New Zealand and hopefully overseas seasons!
I went and watched your hamilton show today (thursday 3rd may) and it was unbelievable!!! It was amazing!! Well worth the money!i really enjoyed it and have told all my friends and family to go watch it!!
Thankz guys for a great show :]
He whakaari whakahirahira rawa atu tenei! Ki toku tumanako ka haere ki tawahi.Tena koutou
One of the best shows I have seen for a while. Having taught at a performing arts camp in New York (where programmes included voice, dance & circus whose Head of Dept was a Kiwi!!), I think Maui would be extremely welcome and successful to a west American & Hawaiian audience!! Absolutely spectacular!!
Tena koutou katoa,
I suppose already you would have many other comments and feedback congratulating you all on the amazing mahi you've accomplished, and I would like to add my own appreciations.
Thank you all immensely for the experience, it was an amazing show and I was glad to have been apart of it. A hard-hitting emotional performance, expressed in ways that you never would have expected. A whole lot of pieces came together from the old days when I was taught the legends back in primary school. If pride in our culture isn't enough it's displays such as this that really top it all off.
Thank you again for a truly meorable performance, I have the DVD and audio CD and will treasure them always.
Karepe Poutapu.
Visually exhausting, mentally exhilarating, spiritually unforgettable. May the legend live on, may Maui travel beyond his Pacific home.
Ka mau te wehi! This was an amazing show with so many brilliant elements all working together so well, so cleverly. The aerial element mixed with the costumes, use of fabric, dance contemporary and traditional, song, music everything. My 5 year old niece was just spellbound by everthing. it was alate night for her but she was captivated and really loved it. I really beleive the world is gonna love it!!!
You guys should be sooo proud. I certainly am!
I read John Symthe's June 2005 review of the show's 'first taste' and I may not be as articulate in speech as he is but he sure hit the nail on the head. I took my daughters to the opening night performance at the Civic Wednesday, 18th Aprl, and to quote 'Batman and Robin'..."SHAZAM", "KAPOW", etc...it was everything the reviewer had said. It had it all. Joy, sadness, grief, comedy, arrogance, defiance, rebellion, pride of one's cultural identity all wrapped up in a whimsical stage setting with 'chill down my spine' music. One could not ask for anything else. Bravo 'Maui, One Man Against the Gods' for what I hope will be a taonga for all (sitting in front of the best author in the world...Witi Ihimaera...was the golden syrup on the fried bread!). My only regret was that I didn't do what my heart and head told me to do and that was to give you all a standing ovation in recognition of heartfelt, mauri quivering, tears of joy performance of one and all. Ki nga mihi ki a koutou katoa. Arohanui.
Absolutely amazing. There are no words to describe. The show conjures a feeling of mana, and absolute pride for ones culture. Ka pai
Breath taking experience, not to be missed...Maui is a unique and beautiful performance...makes you proud to be a Kiwi!!
I was drawn by the passion and staunch pride of this beautiful show. So much vision and care was put into this Maui. The singing was stong, projective, passionate, lively, bold and evocative. I have little understanding of the Maori language but because the visuals, lightings, costumes and performances were so wonderful, absorbing, rich and detailed, this just made this 2 hour and quickly elapsing journey more organic and real. However, each scene was narrated in English to keep non-speakers of Maori clued-up.
The Haka was electrifying, passionate and liberating to listen to and the primeaval story telling through song.
Maui was an extraordinary and exceptional demi-god but with human emotions - grief, jealousy, anger, revenge, love, kindness, defiance, weakness, confusion, skittishness, vulnerability, despair, self-belief,determination - all that makes us human. All these emotions were played with such conviction, but not only by Maui but the layered and strong performances by the whole cast.
This is a special and unique show with universal themes. It is exciting, entertaining, visually beautiful, but most of all passionate. Maui is a rich and vivid show which will pass your expectations and live in your memory and has heightened by interest in the Maori culture. Thank you!
Simply Breathtaking! I laughed, I cried, I learnt. Loved every minute.
